Thank you for your concern Rudram.
I would like to raise a few points. Firstly, the article was focused on psychedelics, and their legalization won't lead to mass consumption like alcohol and cannabis. If legalized, psychedelics would aid in therapy. Talking about decriminalization, the Netherlands and Portugal are the best examples. You should watch this video for the benefits of decriminalization: https://youtu.be/aiOLkRRyrIo
But as you have raised your point related to marijuana, I would love to talk about it. Honestly, I didn't quite understand the reasons behind your claims. I have been in touch with people from GLM, and all I have heard is the boost in economy cannabis legalization will provide to us. If we currently see, there is already a generous amount of cannabis consumption in India. There is no tax obtained from these illegal productions of cannabis. Moreover, marijuana is adulterated by harmful substances. Legalization will aid all these problems. Legalization will also benefit the hemp industry, which has a huge market. Also, there will be significant cost reduction wasted on prisoners (in my opinion, they are not criminals, but the mistake made in 1985 made them so). If you are talking about labour exploitation, then most of the products you are currently consuming involve it. Apart from this, if there will be price hike then people will start growing their own marijuana, so cartels won't be able to do so.
It would be best if you read more about the points you have raised, and in case you find any good article supporting/rejecting my claims, do share it with me. It is great to learn from all different perspectives!
Thanks!
